BIOGRAPHY

Musician | Flutist | Educator
Vocals, trombone, and piano included.

Eliza Taylor is a musician and educator located in Athens, Ohio with roots in Appalachia. Primarily a flutist, Eliza is also an accomplished singer, pianist, and trombonist. Eliza has notably played in New York, Philadelphia, and in the Washington DC/Baltimore area. Well-versed in classical, jazz, and Latin styles, Eliza has performed and collaborated with a variety of individuals and groups, including local musicals, the Potomac Concert Band of Cumberland, MD, the Arion Band of Frostburg, MD, and the Morgantown Dance Company, and has opened for Noel Quintana’s Latin Crew and the Count Basie Orchestra. Eliza was a member of a variety of ensembles at West Virginia Wesleyan College, including the Bobcat Marching Band, Concert Band, WVWC Big Band, choral ensembles and jazz combos. She was also the lead vocalist and flutist for the Afro-Cuban Ensemble and the assistant director of the Flute Ensemble during her time as a student. Eliza is currently pursing a Master of Music and works as a Music Theory Graduate Assistant at Ohio University. As a student, she has notably served as principal flute and piccolo in both the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra, as well as a member of Jazz Ensembles, Graduate Woodwind Quintet, Flute Choir, and Shimmering Silver, the premier flute quartet of the School of Music. 

Eliza also has years of experience as a church musician and chorister previously at Trinity Assembly of God (Midlothian, MD), Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church (Elkins, WV), and currently at First Presbyterian Church (Athens, OH). 

 

Eliza has maintained a private studio since 2014, teaching flute, beginner piano, woodwinds, brass, and voice. Eliza also has experience teaching in public schools, and she currently assists the Elkins High School Fighting Tiger Marching Band.

 

Eliza has studied with Keith Hanlon, Marguerite Bostonia, Reggie Watkins,

Leigh Usilton, Linda Wolfersheim, and

Alison Brown Sincoff.

 

Eliza is proudly from Frostburg, Maryland, holds a Bachelor of Music Education from West Virginia Wesleyan College, and is currently completing a Master of Music in Flute Performance with certificates in Instrumental Conducting and  Music Administration from Ohio University.
